There are three really good modern hand controlled brake types that we use at Bike Friday. And, we still have some coaster brake hubs for fewer cables and for those of us that want simple -- and grew up with the kick back style.

Less popular, but also available, are drum brakes of a few types.

On on our light road/sport models -- that means those with 451mm ISO rim types -- you will see Dual Pivot road brakes.

Most common on our touring and general use models with 406mm ISO sized rims are V-brakes, because they have really proven themselves over the last 20 years. V-brakes give better clearance than older cantilever style calipers on the rear on Bike Fridays.

Disc brakes are making quite a few inroads as they make even wet weather braking fairly consistent.

For a Bike Friday, think about if you will be packing and traveling a lot. If so you will need to protect your disc brakes from damage with more care when you pack..
